Problems with Downloading from Youtube
Youtube has been making changes that have affected a small but significant amount of our users.
We have released a new version of Song Surgeon that has a second sniffer module built into it. This alternative sniffer is exclusively for Youtube. The main or normal sniffer continues to work correctly for all sites except YouTube. Moreover, the original sniffer continues to work on YouTube for many people. However, YT continues to make changes to the site and how they handle videos, and these changes continue to cause episodic problems for the original sniffer module on some number of machines. The alternative sniffer which is solely for Youtube should resolve these YT problems.
If you have Version 4.0.0.3 or older, you should download (From the Download's Section of the Help Desk) the newest Version 4 build. Please uninstall you current build, before you install the new build.
Once installed you use the program as you normally would with one exception. If you want to grab something from Youtube, you must close the normal sniffer. Then use the keystrokes: "Control+Shift+S" This will open a YouTube sniffer window. Into this sniffer you will copy and paste the URL from your browser for the YT video of interest. Once you have pasted this URL, click Download. The system will download the file and place it in your normal sniffer default folder (which you can set by clicking the Tools button) at the top of the GUI. Once it has downloaded you will use the open button to go to that location and select and open the audio.
