Project files contain all of the settings required to re-open a project at a later date in time. Things like loops, markers, key and tempo setting are contained within it. Included also is the path to the video but not the video itself.
When you change computers the path to this video file as stipulated in the .vsp file is from the old computer. It is likely that this same path does not exist on your new computer and that is why you cannot open a project file directly.
To fix this problem you need to place the videos in the same path and folder as they were on your older machine for at least ONE of these two paths.
You Cache folder from the old machine should contain ALL of the videos used by Video Surgeon projects.
Start by copying this Cache folder from your old machine and moving it to your new machine and pasting the contents of the cache file into the cache file on your new machine.
So for example, if your old machine uses this path.
C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Cache
You NEW machine likely has a different path, like this.
C:\Users\NEW COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Cache
After you have copied all of the files from your Cache folder from the old to the new, the next step is to modify the project file. Please open one of your project files (.vsp) files in note pad. When you do, look for a string of text that looks like this:
C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Cache\55414e4e573972555a6c4c63473861374a704d627a413d3d.avi
C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Sniffer\Song Surgeon Tutorial featuring Curtis Fairchild.mp4
Edit the path with the Cache subfolder. So, for example, if your old machine uses this path.
C:\Users\Kenneth\Video Surgeon 2\Cache
You NEW machine likely has a different path, like this.
C:\Users\Ken\Video Surgeon 2\Cache
Assuming this is the case you need to create this OLD PATH on your new computer, so you would edit this path
C:\Users\Kenneth\Video Surgeon 2\Cache\55414e4e573972555a6c4c63473861374a704d627a413d3d.avi
and change it to this:
C:\Users\Ken\Video Surgeon 2\Cache\55414e4e573972555a6c4c63473861374a704d627a413d3d.avi
Once you have done this SAVE the changes in word pad to this project file. Now, open this same project file in Video Surgeon and it should
now open.
Video Surgeon 3 has a migration tool built into it so don't have to hassle with this on a new machine with this new build.
