My Project Files (.vsp) From My Old Computer Do No Open on My New Computer

Project files contain all of the settings required to re-open a project at a later date in time. Things like loops, markers, key and tempo setting are contained within it. Included also is the path to the video. When you change computers the path to this video file as stipulated in the .vsp file is from the old computer. It is likely that this same path does not exist on your new computer and that is why you cannot open a project file directly.

Please open one of your project files (.vsp) files in note pad. When you do, look for a string of text that looks like this:

In the above there are two paths:

C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Cache\55414e4e573972555a6c4c63473861374a704d627a413d3d.avi
C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\Sniffer\Song Surgeon Tutorial featuring Curtis Fairchild.mp4

To fix this problem you need to place the videos in the same path and folder as they were on your older machine for at least ONE of these two paths.
You Cache folder from the old machine should contain ALL of the videos used by Video Surgeon projects, whereas the second which is the path to the original video, may be different for each video, therefore it is likely that the easier solution is grab the videos from the Cache file on your old machine.

So if your old machine uses this path.

C:\Users\OLD COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\

You NEW machine likely has a different path, like this.

C:\Users\NEW COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\

Assuming this is the case you need to create this OLD PATH on your new computer.
C:\Users\NEW COMPUTER USER NAME\Video Surgeon 2\

Once this is done then copy the "Cache" subfolder from your old machine into the "Video Surgeon 2" folder you have just created
that used the path from the old machine.

Once this is done, you should be able to Open a project file directly on your new machine.
